Swansea BMHS Writer’s Development Programme

In 2022-2023, this Welsh Government and Books Council of Wales funded project enabled Guinevere to offer the community BAME Mental Health Support Hub in Swansea a 6-month package of workshops in creative writing. Sessions offered 1-1 feedback, support in performing and presenting work, language, theme and narrative development, editing and creating texts in a variety of poetic and prose styles from haiku to writing utopia/dystopia and flash fiction to proposals and short stories. We studied how creative writing can help mental health, and in relation to this looked at expressive writing, affirmation creation, had fun with word games, encouraged journal writing and explored confessional styles and creative catharsis.

This project offered Poetry Into Light vital experience of working in the BAME community and several participants are now engaged in our performance events. We’d love to work with your group!
